The Right to Own Guns – a Talking Points lesson for English reading & speaking

The Right to Own Guns – a Talking Points lesson for English reading & speaking

This is part of the Talking Points lesson series for Intermediate to Advanced students.

This lesson plan is all about gun ownership. Some countries and cultures may not allow for the discussion of guns in your class. So please use your own discretion.

But for many people, the right to own a gun – and to use this gun for sport and to protect one’s family – is justified.

This topic can divide the class – there may be those that agree and those that disagree. But this is ideal for you as teacher. You can gently steer the lesson and watch as students’ debate their views and opinions.

However, this subject can be very engaging in your English or ESL class. It is perfectly designed to create a lot of discussion in the classroom.

      The lesson comes complete with:

      • a 500-word article

      • a table of essential vocabulary

      • a big list of questions for discussion

Start the class with the three opening questions and then do the reading. Then you can go through all the vocabulary – or set it as homework for the students to do later.

Then there is a big list of questions that are designed to get your students talking.

It comes in easy to use PDF format, ideal for printing for your needs. Use it again and again for your English/ESL classes.
