Transcendent Transgressions: Dark Visions of Trans Artists is a project by, and for, transgender, non-binary and intersex visual artists, illustrators, writers and poets, musicians and filmmakers whose interests are of the darker variety. Our goal is to showcase talents within the trans community that may go unseen within the dark art, writing and film communities as well as meet and collaborate with like-minded individuals. We firmly believe that, in these times of greater visibility and turbulence against the trans community, our stories need to be highlighted. We hope to give trans artists a much needed voice in the dark surrealism community in any medium, and doing it for a good cause. All profits made from this project goes directly to the Trans Lifeline, a non-profit organization dedicated to end transgender suicide and improve mental health and well being, as well as educate and empower the trans community.
What is Dark Art?
Dark art is a subculture/subgenre of art, film and music with surrealist, horror, dystopian and/or occult themes, but is of course not limited to only these themes. They can include biographical commentary, mental illness, society, politics and more. Notable dark artists include H.R. Giger, Hieronymus Bosch, Francisco de Goya, and Zdzislaw Beksinski. Notable musical acts include Skinny Puppy, Coil, Bauhaus, Mayhem, SUNN O))), Chelsea Wolfe.
We believe themes of transgender oppression, gender politics, and the deconstruction of cisnormative social gender and sexual roles have a place in dark art, and we want to see it.
Transcendent Transgressions is an anthology available in high quality PDF format, all proceeds going to Trans Lifeline. The folx at T.T. will not profit from this project or artists in any way.
