Gifted Intelligence 

It is well known among researchers that there is an unusually high occurrence of disorders such as mood disorders (anxiety and depression), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), autoimmune disease, asthma, environmental and food allergies among gifted individuals.

The Autoimmune Personality

Are you Type A, C, D or G? Are some of your personality traits contributing to your autoimmune flare-ups? Any comprehensive understanding of autoimmune personality traits must take into account, gifted intelligence. After researching personality types related to autoimmune disease, the literature reveals that we fall into several types - one of which includes gifted traits that we can now call Type G.

While much of the research on personality type related to autoimmune disease has focused on Type A, C and D traits and coping styles, in this book we will also consider gifted personality traits, stress, inflammation, and the dominant brain networks and underlying neurobiological needs that may be contributing to autoimmune reactions.

TYPE G Personality – Gifted and Geeky

Any comprehensive understanding of personality traits must also include gifted traits. The term gifted refers to an ability to sense, perceive and interpret the world in a quicker and more detailed manner than the bulk of the population. In addition to high intelligence, other qualities of giftedness include sensitivity, perfectionism, entelechy (the ability to intuit and manifest impulses), introversion and the “autonomous factor,” which is when someone is not interested in other’s opinions about the things they create that are important to them.

In researching the connection and link between giftedness, autoimmunity, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD and affective disorders, many of  the studies showed that giftedness was related to sensory processing sensitivity, autoimmunity, ADHD, autism spectrum and affective disorders. This piqued my curiosity and I started looking into the brain networks related to gifted intelligence.

Across-the-board it seemed like the three main brain networks involved in gifted tendencies also predispose gifted people to physiological responses including autoimmune disease and sensory processing sensitivity. This personality type is based on gifted personality traits such as enhanced cognitive capacity, high sensitivity, and rumination. For all of the gifted people of the world, as well as for geeks and other highly creative people, we can now call this Type G.
