Highland Good Food Conversation - Films (plus discussion, Jan. 7, 8pm)

1 rating

We have a special end-of-year treat laid on by Transition Black Isle as part of their Highland Good Food Conversation. Zev Robinson is an artist and documentary film-maker who had a residency with Cromarty Arts Trust in 2017. In recent years he has produced a body of work under the title The Art and Politics of Eating http://theartandpoliticsofeating.com and he is now making four of his documentaries available to stream for the reduced price of £3.30 + VAT (£3.96 including VAT).

Zev explains his interest in local food: “The Black Isle (trailer - https://vimeo.com/255969078), The Fish in the Sea (trailers - https://vimeo.com/238357742) and Rocks, Crofts and Sheep (trailer - https://vimeo.com/312153368), are my three documentaries looking at local food, circular economies and community in the Highlands. Local food businesses tend to buy from local sources, money stays in the region, the carbon footprint is less while community cohesion is greater. On the other hand, supermarkets are impersonal entities and their profits don’t benefit the community. They have long existed alongside local grocers, butchers, and fishmongers but over the last few decades, the small shops have gradually disappeared."

The three films mentioned, along with Real Bread Bakers (trailer - https://vimeo.com/41172033), examine these issues, but the crucial question is not so much about what is wrong, but whether it can be changed to create a healthier and more robust food system for a large part of the population.”

The films will be available to view until Friday 8th January, and those who have watched them will be invited to participate in an on-line discussion about the films at 8pm on Thursday 7th January, and the issues raised in them. The films are available for a thirty day period from date of purchase, and can be viewed during a three day period once they are started.
