The main purpose of Visual Basic Editor (VBE) Basics is to help you learn the basics of working with the Visual Basic Editor (VBE).
Visual Basic Editor (VBE) Basics:
- Is part of my Excel Macros for Beginners Book Series; and
- Assumes you know about the topics covered in the previous Books in the Excel Macros for Beginners Book Series, particularly Create Excel Macros Without Programming.
Visual Basic Editor (VBE) Basics has two main goals:
- Help you learn the basics of working with the Visual Basic Editor (VBE). Visual Basic Editor (VBE) Basics introduces and explains (among others): (i) The VBE and its main characteristics/components/sections; and (ii) How to use the VBE to carry out the most common activities and operations you (an Excel macro and VBA beginner) are likely to require for achieving your objectives.
- Introduce several useful tools, features, and customizations you (an Excel macro and VBA beginner) may find helpful.
Visual Basic Editor (VBE) Basics does not cover every single detail of working with the Visual Basic Editor (VBE). It focuses on the information, details, and processes that (in my opinion) are helpful to an Excel macro and VBA beginner.
Visual Basic Editor (VBE) Basics is divided into nine Chapters.
- Chapter 1 is an introduction to the Visual Basic Editor (VBE).
- In Chapter 2, you learn how to access the VBE, including how to: (i) Open the VBE; and (ii) Toggle between Excel and the VBE.
- In Chapter 3, you learn how to work with one of the most often used VBE windows: The Project Explorer (or Project Window).
- In Chapter 4, you learn how to work with modules. You can (usually) think of modules as containers of VBA code.
- In Chapter 5, you learn how to work with another (in addition to the Project Explorer) of the most often used VBE windows: The Code Window.
- Chapter 6 is an introduction to working with VBA code in the VBE. This Chapter focuses on the perspective of Excel macro beginners who (usually) create macros by working with the Macro Recorder.
- Chapter 7 is an introduction to: (i) VBE customization; and (ii) VBE window behavior. This includes step-by-step explanations of the processes you can use to specify or modify VBE window behavior.
- In Chapter 8, you learn how to work with two tools that help you while creating macros: (i) The Interpreter; and (ii) Auto Syntax Check.
- In Chapter 9, you learn how to modify (to a certain extent) the appearance of: (i) The VBE; and (ii) The VBA code you work with.
