Pyrmont [5689] - limited editions

Under the title "Pyrmont", Zibi Bilyk, known for his bush and cityscapes, presents unique 'urban doodle' abstracts captured in Pyrmont, an inner-city suburb of Sydney, Australia. Asphalt doodles on the roads became an intriguing subject of his urban landscapes and were first shown in 2013 in the group exhibition with Erwin Redl (Cracks), during the Head On Photo Festival.

…"asphalt cracks repaired with tar¹ appear like a gigantic doodles on the road. To me, they have all the characteristics of an abstract drawings. I see them as 'readymades' (as defined by Marcel Duchamp). All they need is to be extracted from the road and hung on the wall. My somewhat corrupted intellect slips into the process controlling the composition and cropping. Apart of that, I see the scribbles on the road as the most honest and real abstract expressions I have ever come across."

¹/ Often referred to as a 'crocodile cracking', the repair on the asphalt pavement resembles the pattern of scales on a reptile's back.

²/ Floating frame, also known as a ‘shadow line frame’ is a mounting technique in which any piece of art is suspended inside the picture frame. The piece appears to ‘float’ above the undermount, creating a delicate shadow effect around the edges. Floating the artwork requires spacers (2–5 mm or deeper) inside the frame, to ensure the glass is not directly touching the art piece.
