Edgar Allen Poe was one of the pre-eminent writers of gothic horror and fantasy and is considered to be a cornerstone of the genre.

"Silence (a fable)" is one of his lesser-known short stories, a vivid fable about the nature of humanity. It is available to read for free on Project Gutenberg with the rest of his works, which are now public domain.

This edition, adapted and illustrated by Julie Nick in 2015 endeavours to translate it into a stark black and white visual sequential format.
