To get started in Hold'em, it is very useful to have a starting hand card with you. You can print this out and then keep it near your screen or just keep this page there. First follows a number of instructions and tips with the starting hand cards. After you have read these you can use them immediately!

Tips:

1. Always adapt your game to the opponents and do not blindly rely on the starting hand card! This map is only an average indication. If you don't have any info about your opponent you should follow the chart, but if you do, adjust your game accordingly. Does your opponent play a lot of hands? Then his range is larger and you can play more.

2. Why do you call or limp (call 1BB) so little ? You are normally convinced that you have either a better hand than your opponent or a worse hand. If you have a better one, why would you call? An exception to this is if you do have a worse hand, but think you can improve it. A good example of this is set mining, where you just limp a low pocket pair (22-77) in the hope that there will be a set that will win you a lot of money.

3. If no one has raised yet, it is recommended to raise to 3BB. You also add 1BB for everyone who has limped. Always do this no matter what hand you have! For example, do you have AA and 1 someone just called the BB? then increase to 4BB (3 + 1 for the limper)

How do you use the starting hand card?

There are of course 9 positions at a table with 9 people :

SB - BB - UTG1 - UTG2 - MP1 - MP2 - HJ - CO - BTN .

SB and BB are the Blinds,

UTG means Under the gun. You have to say it first before the flop.

MP and HJ (Hijack) are the Middle Positions because you are roughly in the middle.

CO (Cut-off) and BTN (Button) are the late positions. You prefer to sit here.

When talking about the Early position, it is therefore the first 2 seats, Middle the next 3, and Late the last two.

There is also a difference between suited (s) cards and offsuit (o). Suited means that they are of the same kind. AKs can thus be AKs of diamonds. When suited cards are connected together (67, 78, 89, etc.) we call them suited connectors (sc).

There is always a plus (+) behind the cards. This means that you do this with all hands that are as good or better than this hand. If it says 99+, play all pairs that are 99 or higher. JT + thus means JT, but also KJ, QT, and AK. Finally, we cannot emphasize often enough that you have to develop your own style. If you want to adjust the starting hand cards how you like it more, that's fine. Make sure that it does not become loss-making. (Re-raising by 84o after 2 people raise just isn't a good idea.)
