Profile PictureWayfinding Initiative

The Wayfinding Initiative is a collection of projects designed to re-imagine higher education. A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we are a team of educators, filmmakers, and dreamers who have come together under a common interest in finding better alternatives to the traditional educational system. To this end, we are creating a documentary film, a progressive self-directed curriculum and building an on the ground alternative learning environment in Portland, Oregon (a hand crafted pre-college alternative). You can learn more about all our projects in detail at: WayfindingInitiative.com The curriculum, Wayfinder, was designed by Sean Aiken in collaboration with educators, Dr. Michelle Jones, Lindsay Goodridge and Kristy Baker. Sean Aiken is the creator of The One Week Job Project, an inspiring journey across North America in which he worked 52 jobs in 52 weeks to find his passion. After having graduated from Capilano University with a Business Administration degree, top of his class with a 4.0 GPA and Class Valedictorian, Aiken struggled with the direction his life should take. This inspired his website and journey and ultimately his book, The One Week Job Project, which was published in 2010 by Penguin Group Canada and Random House USA. Aiken has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, TIME Magazine and the Globe & Mail, and has appeared on CNN, 20/20, The Rachael Ray Show, Good Morning America, and countless other media outlets around the world. He frequently speaks to students and companies about what he learned from his experience and has developed an international program to empower others to discover their passion by taking on a series of “one week jobs”.
